Every summer, members from Clay-Union Electric, Union County Electric and B-Y Electric take a bus trip to tour Basin Electric’s Antelope Valley Coal Generation Station, the Freedom Coal Mine and the Great Plains, Synfuels Plant – all located in North Dakota. Cooperative members also tour East River Electric Power Cooperative headquarters facilities in Madison, South Dakota. In addition, participants also visit the World War II Memorial in Pierre.

The tour of the Oahe Dam gives new insight to the public resources committed to producing hydroelectric power as well as the other benefits from the Missouri Basin Region.
The tour is available to ALL cooperative members. Each member is asked to pay $12.50 towards the cost of the trip ($25 couple). Tour participants must be at least 18 years of age.
The cost of the trip includes all transportation, lodging, and meals. The first members to return the application form along with their payment will be included on the tour. The capacity of the bus only allows for 45 members to participate in each year’s tour.
To allow for as many cooperative members to participate in the power supply tour as possible, registration forms from members that have already participated in the tour before will only be selected if there are less than 45 new participants .
Clay-Union Electric offers the power supply tour because we feel it is an important tool in understanding how the power supply system operates. The power supply tour provides members with an understanding of how electricity is generated, transmitted, and distributed to their homes.
We urge you to take advantage of this enjoyable and exceptional opportunity. To make it even more fun, get together with some of your friends and neighbors and take the trip together.
